LENS DESIGN

Single vision lenses have only one prescription throughout the entire lens. This is the most common type of lens and can be made for distance, computer or reading.

Anti-fatigue lenses are designed for people who spend prolonged periods of near work such as reading, computer, tablet or phone use. The lens is still set to your distance prescription similar to a single vision lens, however there is a slight addition of reading power in the bottom portion of the lens. This helps reduce eye fatigue and eyestrain throughout the course of the day.

Progressives allow you to focus at multiple distances, have no lines and allow for a smooth, comfortable transition from your distance prescription to your reading prescription at the bottom of the lens.

Computer progressive lenses are similar to a regular progressive lens in that it allows you to focus at multiple distances and have no lines but these are customized to allow for a smooth transition from your computer prescription to your reading prescription instead. There is no distance prescription in these which allows you to have more areas of the lens dedicated to your task-specific visual demands.

Bifocals have clearly defined areas for your distance vision in the top portion of the lens and near vision in the bottom portion. These areas are separated by a noticeable line.

Trifocals have three clearly defined areas in the lens — distance, intermediate (or computer), and near. These areas are separated by a noticeable line.

LENS MATERIAL

Plastic lenses are a lightweight and cost-effective lens material with good optics. The disadvantage to these lenses is the thickness.

Polycarbonate lenses are thinner and lighter than plastic lenses and are impact-resistant. These lenses are required for children’s glasses and safety glasses.

Trivex lenses are similar to polycarbonate in that they are thinner and lighter than plastic lenses and are impact-resistant but have slightly better optics than polycarbonate.

Hi-Index lenses are the thinnest lenses available and are lightweight. Patients with high prescriptions would benefit the most from these lenses.

LENS FEATURES

Anti-reflective coating eliminates glare caused by light reflecting from your lenses, providing better vision for nighttime driving and more comfortable vision for reading and computer use. It also makes your lenses nearly invisible so people can focus on your eyes, not the reflections from your eyeglasses. It is highly recommended for all lenses especially for polycarbonate and hi-index lens materials.

Bluelight anti-reflective coatings protect against harmful blue-violet light rays by filtering out the undesirable wavelengths emitted from artificial from your smartphone, LED screens, TV, computer and tablet screens. Evidence suggests that long-term exposure to blue light may contribute to damage of the retina that may lead to macular degeneration. Viewing digital devices at night can also disrupt the brain’s production of melatonin, causing sleep disturbances and a dysfunction of the natural circadian rhythm.

Photochromic lenses are eyeglass lenses that are clear indoors and darken automatically when exposed to UV rays. Theses lenses will not darken in the car because the windshield glass blocks most UV rays.

Polarized lenses eliminate glare that is created by horizontal surfaces such as roadways, water, snow etc. Lenses can be polarized both as clear or more commonly, as sunglasses.

UV-protective coatings block 100% of harmful UV rays from damaging your eyes akin to sunscreen. These coatings can still be clear and still provide complete UV protection.

A high quality scratch coat will make your lenses more resistant to scratches but no lenses are entirely scratch-proof.

Tint treatment can change lens into any color. These are helpful for changing any pair of glasses into sunglasses, reduce eyestrain or achieve a cosmetic effect.
