TEEN EYE CARE
Teenage eye care is often overlooked but teenagers face unique visual demands from increased reading workloads to increased digital device screen time and rapid physiological growth of the eyes.
It is important to keep up with an everchanging technology-heavy world with the increased use of digital devices. Eyestrain and eye fatigue are common symptoms of increased screen time and prescribing anti-fatigue lenses, with bluelight protection will often help alleviate those symptoms for your teen. Occasionally, with increased focusing needs, accommodation can be reduced and your teen may need reading or computer glasses to help with focusing.
It is also important to check for uncorrected astigmatism that often goes unnoticed that can hinder reading fluency and academic performance.
Our Optometrists can also evaluate whether your teen is ready to safely transition to contact lenses, a common time for many teens to start the conversation of contact lenses.
Late adolescence is also when progressive conditions like keratoconus typically begin to emerge, making early screening essential to detect corneal changes and protect long-term vision before permanent damage occurs. We can assess for early signs of keratoconus and can measure your teen’s corneal shape with corneal topography testing.

UNITY RELIEVE LENS
UNITY Relieve is sharply focused on the use of digital devices such as computers, cellphones, laptops, etc. These are considered "anti-fatigue" lenses that help reduce eyestrain and eye fatigue while on digital devices for prolonged periods of time.
Unity Relieve Lenses provide everyday distance vision, a slight power boost in the near, and targeted blue light defense to reduce symptoms of digital eye strain and fatigue. They come with blue light anti-reflective coating that reduces potentially harmful blue light exposure to the eyes.
KERATOCONUS
Keratoconus is an eye disease in which the normally round cornea thins and begins to bulge into a cone-like shape. It can occur in one or both eyes and often begins during a person's teens or early 20s.
ANTI-FATIGUE LENSES
Anti-fatigue lenses help provide single-vision patients relief from digital eye strain symptoms in a lens that functions and feels like a single vision lens. This new lens technology takes into account distance vision and near vision by including a customized near power boost to reduce eye strain, eye fatigue and improve the visual acuity of small print.
- 84% of wearers feel a reduction in visual fatigue
-
88% of wearers experienced improved readability of small characters
-
92% of wearers satisfied
We are the number 1 prescriber of anti-fatigue lenses in our region and were one of the first to adapt to this new lens technology. This has provided huge relief for patients suffering from eyestrain and eye fatigue related to prolonged periods of computer use and for patients who are just beginning to need reading glasses.
Adaptation to these lenses are very easy like adapting to a single vision lens.
