SPECIALTY CONTACT LENSES

Our practice specializes in advanced, custom specialty contact lens fittings for complex ocular conditions. By utilizing state-of-the-art diagnostic technology such as our sMap 3D Scleral Topography, we can design specialized scleral lenses for keratoconus, corneal ectasia, and irregular corneas, post-surgical corneas (i.e. corneal transplant) and post-traumatic injury corneas, thus providing crisp vision where standard lenses fall short.

For patients battling severe dry eye or Sjögren’s syndrome, we also offer PROSE (Prosthetic Replacement of the Ocular Surface Ecosystem) therapy to continuously hydrate and protect the eye. Additionally, our doctors can fit hybrid Duette hard/soft contact lenses, custom therapeutic lenses for symptom relief, custom hand-painted prosthetic contact lenses designed to restore a natural aesthetic appearance for eyes affected by trauma or disfigurement, contact lenses for color blindness.

KERATOCONUS

Keratoconus is an eye disease in which the normally round cornea thins and begins to bulge into a cone-like shape. It can occur in one or both eyes and often begins during a person's teens or early 20s.

SEVERE DRY EYE

For patients with severe dry eye or Sjögren’s syndrome, we offer PROSE (Prosthetic Replacement of the Ocular Surface Ecosystem) therapy to continuously hydrate and protect the eye.

SCLERAL LENSES

As part of our commitment to innovation, we offer specialty scleral lens fittings for for patients with corneal diseases such as keratoconus, pellucid marginal degeneration, etc. with customized scleral lenses that allow our patients to see better than what can be achieved in glasses.

For patients battling severe dry eye or Sjögren’s syndrome, we offer PROSE (Prosthetic Replacement of the Ocular Surface Ecosystem) therapy to continuously hydrate and protect the eye.

We are 1 of 7 sMap 3D Centers of Excellence in all of SoCal and 1 of <50 offices in the entire US who offer the highest level of technological precision for mapping the shape of the eye. Featuring 360-degree coverage and 10-micron precision, the sMap3D™ corneo-scleral topographer captures one million measurement points to create highly detailed maps of the cornea and sclera. The data collected informs the design of our totally customizable scleral lenses.

SCANNING

Our sMap 3D Scleral Topography scans only takes a few seconds per eye gaze, is safe, painless and convenient akin to taking a photograph.

100% CUSTOMIZED CONTACTS

The sMap 3D incorporates advanced technology that is highly accurate and precise in obtaining custom measurements of the elevation and toricity of your eyes to design a lens fit like a custom glove to your eye.

HYBRID LENSES

Hybrid contact lenses combine the clarity of a hard lens with the comfort of a soft lens. It has a hard rigid gas permeable center and a soft, silicone hydrogel outer skirt.

They are simple to insert, remove and clean, similar to soft contact lenses while providing better visual acuity than a fully soft contact lens. The handling of the lenses is simpler than that of scleral lenses and learning how to insert, remove and clean them is akin to learning how to insert soft contact lenses.

Great for patients who are unhappy with their vision in soft lenses, frustrated with fluctuating vision or are ready to see better at night. It is an excellent lens for GP wearers who love the vision GP lenses deliver but would like the easy and wearability of a soft lens. They also come in progressive multifocal options to aid in reading for patients needing a reading prescription.

HAND-PAINTED PROSTHETIC CONTACT LENSES

For a number of reasons, including eye injuries, one patient’s eye may appear differently than the other. Our doctors can fit and prescribe custom-tinted contact lenses to aesthetically match dissimilar appearing eyes, closely simulating the patterns and colors of the natural eye. This includes discolored or misshaped pupils and eyes that suffer from albinism, color vision deficiencies, or other ocular anomalies.

We also offer custom hand-painted prosthetic soft contact lenses, hand crafted by an ocularist to provide an exact match to the color, texture, and unique pattern of your natural iris.

WHAT ARE PROSTHETIC CONTACTS?

Prosthetic contact lenses are soft lenses created to aesthetically match dissimilar appearing eyes, closely simulating the patterns and colors of the natural eye. They are soft, comfortable and can last for up to one year.

CONTACT LENSES FOR COLOR BLINDNESS

Our doctors can fit and prescribe customized contact lenses to aid and enhance the perception of colors in patients with a color deficiency. These soft contact lenses work by changing the wavelength of each color going into one or both eyes, which enhances color perception and color discrimination.

This does not give perfect color perception, but rather it gives them the ability to identify more colors, shades and hues and to differentiate between them. These lenses are available in prescription and varying pupil sizes. Your optometrist will evaluate the best contact lens diameter, pupil size, fit, prescription and identify your eye dominance needed to fit these lenses.

CHROMAGEN

Chromagen therapy provides persons with color deficiency the ability to identify more colors, shades and hues and to differentiate between them. These are soft lenses available in a wide range of prescription powers including astigmatism correction.

X-CHROM LENSES

The X-Chrom lens is a monocular corneal contact lens that will intensify the colors of red and green objects in color deficient patients but the lens does not cure color deficiencies. These are not available with prescription power.

THERAPEUTIC CONTACT LENSES

Our practice offers specialized therapeutic contact lens fittings tailored to manage a variety of neurological and visual sensitivities. Utilizing precision-tinted designs, these advanced lenses are engineered to help treat many sensitivities such as reducing digital eye strain, alleviating light-triggered migraines, photophobia, reducing visual noise, and assisting in minimizing photosensitive seizure triggers.

WHAT ARE THERAPEUTIC CONTACTS?

Therapeutic contacts are specialized, precision-tinted lenses custom-fitted to manage light-sensitivity conditions such as helping to relieve migraines, photophobia, digital eye strain, visual noise, and photosensitive seizure triggers.
