MYOPIA CONTROL
WHAT IS MYOPIA CONTROL?
Myopia control is the use of specific treatments to slow the progression of nearsightedness in children. We utilize the most common research-based and FDA approved methods such as Essilor Stellest lenses, soft therapeutic contact lenses, Orthokeratology (Ortho-K) and atropine eye drops.
MYOPIA CONTROL CALCULATOR
Calculate the percentage reduction in progression of myopia of various treatment options vs non-myopia control options as well as prediction of myopia by age. All based on research as provided by the Brien Holden Vision Institute and MyAppia.
MYOPIA CONTROL TREATMENT OPTIONS

0.05% ATROPINE EYE DROPS
This involves the daily use of atropine eye drops that help slow the development of nearsightedness. Your child will still need to wear glasses during the day.

SOFT THERAPEUTIC LENSES
These specialty soft contact lenses are worn during the day to control myopia progression while providing clear vision. Children do not need to wear their glasses during the day and will wear soft contact lenses to see clearly.

HALT GLASSES
Newest development in myopia control, specially designed glasses proven to slow the progression of myopia. Essilor Stellest lenses use the FDA-approved, revolutionary HALT Technology to slow the rate of nearsightedness. These are glasses that are worn full-time and work like a single vision lens.

ORTHOKERATOLOGY (ORTHO-K)
Orthokeratology (Ortho-K) is a specialty, rigid contact lens worn overnight that temporarily reshapes the cornea, allowing clear vision during the day without glasses or contact lens wear.

ESSILOR STELLEST GLASSES FOR MYOPIA CONTROL
Essilor Stellest glasses are the first eyeglass lenses that are FDA approved for slowing the progression of myopia (nearsightedness) in children 6 to 12 years old at the initiation of treatment. Prior to this, there was only one approved device for slowing the progression of myopia in the form of soft contact lenses or orthokeratology.
We are excited to be one of the first to prescribe these FDA approved glasses for myopia control treatment. This will help to fill the gap for children who are unable to wear contacts and cannot tolerate side effects of alternative methods of myopia control such as atropine (i.e. sensitivity to light, blurred vision).
The Essilor® Stellest® lenses have been designed with an exclusive and pioneering technology called H.A.L.T. (Highly Aspherical Lenslet Target Technology). The H.A.L.T. technology is made of a constellation of 1,021 invisible lenslets. This constellation creates a volume of myopic defocus, sending a signal to slow eye elongation and myopia progression.
All children diagnosed with myopia can now receive myopia control treatment through a simple pair of glasses.

MYOPIA CONTROL TREATMENT OPTION OVERVIEW
WHY MYOPIA CONTROL?
Myopia control reduces your child's risk of retinal detachment and myopic maculopathy, a degenerative eye disease. The biggest risk and most vision-threatening of myopia is retinal detachment since the higher the myopia, the higher the chances of developing a retinal detachment. Learn more below on why myopia control is important for your child.
WHICH TREATMENT OPTION WORKS BEST?
There are numerous highly effective treatment options, which we will help strategize which option will work best for your child's vision, eye health, lifestyle and myopia control goals. Learn more about the comparison between all treatment options.

MYOPIA CONTROL PROCESS
An overview of what to expect during your child’s myopia control evaluation and treatment plan.

EYE EXAM & CONSULTATION
A comprehensive eye exam is first needed to evaluate your candidacy by reviewing your prescription, eye health and risk factors for myopia progression. We will review things such as any diopter changes in prescription, age and family history of nearsightedness. This will help us determine if your child is a good candidate for myopia control and will review various myopia control treatment options.

INITIAL FITTING
In order to obtain an accurate prescription, a dilation is required initially to ensure we are prescribing the correct amount. We will then review with you and choose the best treatment option for your child. We will order the appropriate lenses (Essilor Stellest lenses or Myopia Control contact lenses) for your child at this time. If ordering Essilor Stellest, you will choose a frame for your child and we will then measure the Optical Center Height of your child's eyes in the chosen frames as well as your child's Pupillary Distance. We will then order Essilor Stellest lenses at this time. If atropine eye drops is prescribed then a prescription for this will be given to obtain from an online compounding pharmacy.

DISPENSING APPOINTMENT
Once your child's lenses have arrived, we will schedule an appointment to evaluate the fit of the lenses, ensure proper alignment and visual acuity of your child from the new treatment option chosen.

FOLLOW-UP VISITS
Numerous follow-up visits will be determined by our optometrist to check the progression of your child's myopia throughout the year after initiating treatment. We will reassess the prescription and make any necessary changes to the prescription. Typically this includes a dispensing appointment, 3-month follow-up and a 6-month follow-up after initiating treatment.
